Arizona Grand Resort Begins Search for "Arizona Grand Jam Dancers"
Family-friendly resort to form Arizona’s first professional high school resort dance team
PHOENIX, Ariz. – (March 4, 2010) – Arizona Grand Resort, one of the Valley’s premier family-friendly resort destinations, today announced the launch of a Valley-wide search for the Arizona Grand Jam Dancers, an elite team of high school-aged dancers that will perform exclusively at the resort’s Oasis Water Park between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
Arizona Grand Resort has partnered with the Kimberly Lewis School of Dance (KLSD) to assemble a group of 24 - 35 professional level dancers to become members of this one-of-a-kind dance team. Dancers will perform for thousands of resort guests at the 7-acre Oasis Water Park every weekend as part of the Arizona Grand Resort’s new summer entertainment program called Arizona Grand Jam. Guests can expect choreographed routines, courtesy of KLSD, as well as fun interaction with the Arizona Grand Jam Dancers and other entertainers. The Arizona Grand Jam is part of Island Nights which will offer fun activities for the entire family including dancing, music, food, and dive-in movies to create a “cruise ship atmosphere” within the resort.
Open auditions for the team will take place on Saturday, April 17 from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 18 from 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the Arizona Grand Pavilion. Hopeful candidates of either gender must be between the ages of 14 and 19 but no formal dance training is required. Dancers will be selected by a panel of judges consisting of industry experts, professional dancers and media celebrities.
In preparation for auditions, the Kimberly Lewis School of Dance is offering free classes weekly between March 3 and April 16. The dance school is located at 3820 E. Ray Road, Suite 8 in Phoenix. Space is limited so interested parties must call 480-706-6040 to reserve a spot. Class instructors will include Kimberly Lewis, founder of the Phoenix Suns Dance Team and owner of the Kimberly Lewis School of Dance, Carrie Matheus choreographer for the Phoenix Suns Dance Team from 1991-1998 and artistic director for KLSD, Talia Favia top 30 finalist for the FOX hit TV show So You Think You Can Dance, Jared Fox, with Celebrity Dance Competitions and Davey Trujillo, teacher and choreographer for KLSD. Monday - 7:30 - 8:30 pm
Tuesday - 6:30 - 7:30 pm
Thursday - 7:30 - 8:30 pm
Saturday - 8:00 - 9:00 am
